When installing Windows Defender on a new XP system you might receive an error code 80004002 after trying to update the program. We have found a solution to this error code by following these steps.
Register the Windows Update DLLs by executing the REGSVR32 command, followed by
the name of the DLL to register. Register/re-register all of these:
- wuapi.dll
- wuaueng.dll
- wucltux.dll
- wups.dll
- wups2.dll
- wuwebv.dll
After registering the DLLs above you should be able to successfully update Windows Defender.
