If your computer is infected by a virus or spyware then you might have come across the term 'worm'. In a nutshell a worm is similar to a virus but is technically different.

A computer worm is some software code (or an application) that spreads from one computer to another by itself - as if it is on autopilot.

A virus on the other hand spreads from one computer to another with the aid of computer user sharing an infected USB stick or sending an infected email to to someone else.

The worm has a mind of its own. It can replicate itself in your computer by creating infectious files with random file names. The worm then automatically spreads these random infected worm files by scanning your computer for stored email addresses and sending emails to that list.
